25 October, 2018 APPOINTMENT OF SENIOR COUNSEL The Honourable Chris Kourakis, Chief Justice of South Australia, has today on behalf of the Judges of the Supreme Court announced the appointment of five new Senior Counsel. Senior Counsel hold important leadership positions in the legal profession. Criteria for selection include legal learning, experience and skill in advocacy, integrity, availability to prospective clients and independence. The new Senior Counsel are: Mr Michael Burnett, Mr Alan Lindsay, Mr Domenic Petraccaro, Dr Rachael Gray, and Mr Heath Barklay. Mr Michael Burnett An Honours graduate from the University of Adelaide, Mr Burnett was admitted to practice in 1981. He has extensive experience in commercial litigation, principally in the Federal Court, the Supreme Court and the District Court. Mr Alan Lindsay Mr Lindsay has an Honours degree from the University of Adelaide. He was admitted to practice in South Australia in 1983. Mr Lindsay’s primary area of practice is in medical negligence, professional regulation, insurance, personal injury and general civil law. Mr Domenic Petraccaro Mr Domenic Petraccaro was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court in 1994 and has an Honours Degree from the University of Adelaide. He practises principally in the area of criminal law. Mr Petraccaro has appeared in all jurisdictions of criminal law with an emphasis in the last 10 years in the appellate jurisdictions of the Supreme Court, in particular the Court of Criminal Appeal. Dr Rachael Gray Dr Gray has an Honours degree in Law and a Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Adelaide. She was admitted to practice in 1995. Dr Gray’s primary areas of practice are public law, industrial and workers compensation law and estate law. She has appeared in superior and intermediate courts and tribunals, undertaking both trial and appellate work. Mr Heath Barklay Mr Barklay was admitted to practice in 1997. He has a Bachelor of Laws from Bond University. He joined the Independent Bar in 2010. Mr Barklay practises predominantly in the area of criminal law, appearing mainly in the Supreme and District Courts of South Australia. The Chief Justice said he was delighted to announce the appointments, saying that the newly appointed Senior Counsel had been selected from a talented pool of applicants after extensive consultation and discussion.
